What a crazy world we're living in right now!! These are literally the days they'll be talking about in 100 years. And the music industry is wacky right now. I guess it's always been, but things are definitely changing. I'll give ya a couple examples. My musician friend just sold an NFT song worth more than the cost of the whole album. New musicians are making it to the top of the charts from their 30 second clips on TIKTOK. I can think of at least 5 different national acts that have both announced their summer tours and then immediately canceled them. Vinyl albums outsold CD's last year and cassettes are making a comeback. WHA??
And I... I decided to quietly release my first solo album in the midst of all of this. It has been an interesting ride so far. The moment my boxes of cd's came to my front porch I quickly opened it and got ready to play the CD and realized that I literally didn't have a working CD player in my house.... so I went to my car and realized that I didn't have a CD player there either. After going to 3 stores, none of which had a cd player for your car, I stopped at Target to get one.. and the last cable available to plug it in (sold separately). I was both overjoyed to be able to hear my songs in my car and concerned that I just spent a bunch of money to duplicate a bunch of CD's that I'm not sure anyone even wants...
Whatever... I have em.. I'm gonna get those lil babies out there. But HOW??

I've been slowly stopping by record stores to add my music to their indie/ local section. It's been fun.. I like hangin at record stores anyway AND these places need your support.

*** RIVER OF PENNIES
I took an online class called Today's Music Industry through Coursera and my online teacher from West Virginia Universtiy, Darko Velichkovski, stated that musicians today can make an income through "a river of pennies"..aka streaming. Forget the CDs...this monetization thing is no joke. I've seen the stats, and people ARE listening. It's so exciting to know that someone in LA or even another country has heard my music. This is certainly new in the music industry.

I have a long way before I make any significant amount pennies from YouTube monetization, but it has been a blast working on my editing skills. In my last email I added the video for the song "My Old Friend". And after it was already out there, found out that I credited the wrong drummer for the song. And it's just like me to get rid of any editable version, so I deleted the version I sent... along with all 239 views. I know..239 ain't a Billie Eillish 44 million, but it made it to my top 20 in only 2 weeks. Bummer... I redid the video and added a couple new tricks too. We're at 51 views in less than a week so far.
And so.. I present to you my updated version of "My Old Friend".
But before I do...one last thing...
I listen to the podcast, Female Entrpeneur Musicians. They host an online show called, Women of Substance Radio Podcast. They made a call out for love songs for their Valentine's Day Episode. Guess who got an email stating that they approved my tune, Simple Love Song?!?!? AAHHHHH!!! I was by myself in our polebarn/garage when I read it. I screamed so loud it echoed. My dog Patsy was freaked. You can be sure to get more info from the next edition of Chrissytopia Times at the beginning of February on how to listen. Until then, let me leave you with this...
